If you’ve been looking around Bowden lately, you’ve no doubt noticed all the construction activity at AERIS. Walls are up, structures are in place and there’s plenty of happening around the site. We chatted to Site Manager Brett Mossop to find out a bit more about what’s been going on behind the scenes.
Q: What stage of construction are you currently working on at AERIS?
A: We are nearing completion of the building structure after lifting our last precast wall panel on the weekend.
Q: What happens next?
A: The next milestone will be the roof of the building, which will be installed early in the new year. After that, we will be ready to focus on the individual apartment fit-outs.
Q: Have you run into any unexpected hurdles or has everything gone to plan so far?
A: The volume of precast panels in the project presented some drafting and manufacture challenges early in the program. We have 450 precast panels with a total area of 5,600m2. It was quite a puzzle to design and construct, however, the result is a very robust building structure.
Q: When are you expecting completion?
A: At this stage, if all continues according to plan, we are expecting a completion date of May 2018.
Q: How many people are working on the project’s construction?
A: In the structural phase of the project, we have a site attendance of approximately 30 trades per day. This is expected to ramp up to 60 through the fit-out phase.
Q: As Site Manager, what does a typical day look like for you?
A: Our site opens at 7am and we shut the gates at around 4pm. The day consists of coordinating trades on site, troubleshooting design detailing issues, forward planning for road closures, issuing advanced warning notices to local residents to minimize inconvenience and disruption, crane lifts, concrete pours, material loading, etc… Coffee, food and beverages at Plant 4 too when time permits. No two days are the same!
Q: In your opinion, what makes this building so special?
A: The AERIS building is a very solid structure with a high energy rating and has been designed by one of Adelaide’s leading architectural firms. The park views are beautiful too and it’s only a short walk to the areas shopping and social hub, Plant 4.
AERIS On The Park features the only available apartments under construction now, with an expected move-in date of mid next year. To find out more, contact us on 1800 BOWDEN or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
